Social Media Integration on Squarespace: How to Link & Operate Social Media Accounts on Squarespace
Every modern brand has social media, and if you want to optimize its value for your business, you need to know how to link your social media accounts with your Squarespace account.
You may hear words like “integrations” and immediately expect a lot of complex code and technical work, but don’t worry. Social media integration on Squarespace is really just a fancy term for “linking your profiles to your website.” What a relief.
Check out our complete guide to Squarespace social media integration below! We’ll show you how to connect your profiles to your site and get analytics built in, so you can keep track of your growth. Let’s get started!

Setting Up Social Media Accounts on Squarespace
The first thing you’ll want to do on Squarespace is add social icons to your site. These handy icons make it easy for site visitors to click through to your social pages.
By creating a simple link to your social media accounts, you can use Squarespace as a way to expand brand awareness and improve your search engine optimization (SEO).
Squarespace has social media integrations for all the leading social networks, like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Here’s how to add social icons to your site:
Open your Social Links panel
Scroll down to the “Add a social link or email” field
Copy and paste the URL of your social media account into the field and press “enter” on your keyboard
Repeat this for every social icon you want to add to your Squarespace
To make sure your icons are visible, return to the Social Links panel and check “Show Social Icon” on all of your accounts. You can also easily hide a social icon by unchecking “Show Social Icon” from this screen.
Wow, that was easy. Now you’ve got your accounts synced up to Squarespace, and anyone that visits your site can click on one of the interactive icons and see your social pages.
How to Make Content Shareable
Enabling sharing allows people who visit your site to easily share content across social media. This is great for brand exposure and improving your online reputation. To enable social media sharing, go to the Share Buttons panel, and check each social media option you would like to allow people to share content on.
You can also hide social media sharing for specific sites, so if you don’t want people posting your content on Twitter, for example, you can hide its icon on your posts.
Generally, the more shareability a site has, the better. Allowing your audience to share content gives you free promotion, allowing more people to discover your awesome site.
How to Enhance Social Media Connectivity on Your Site
Now that you know how to link Instagram to Squarespace (and all your other preferred apps), let’s talk about making social media a powerful marketing tool for your site. We’ve already covered how you can enable sharing for other people on your Squarespace, but now, we want to talk about how you can easily post your content on your own channels.
When you enable pushing content to social media, you can automatically send new posts to your accounts. Followers will see your content as a new post on the respective platform, and they can easily click through to read all the amazing stuff you’ve created.
There are a few limitations to be aware of, though. For example, Facebook doesn’t allow Squarespace to publish on personal profiles, but you can still push content to a page.
LinkedIn allows pushing to personal profiles only through Squarespace, and blog posts and pages must have a featured image to be shared on Pinterest.
Tumblr can be tricky since image blocks and videos don’t appear on the platform. Instead, image blocks will display as an external link for users to click on, and videos will be rectangular icons. Overall, not a great look, so it’s probably best to manually handle all your Tumblr promotions independently.
If you’re ready to get your social posts shared on other platforms, though, we’ve got you covered!
Here’s how to start pushing Squarespace to social media in six easy steps:
On your Home page, click Settings, then Connected Accounts
Click “Connect Account,” choose a platform, enter your login credentials
Click on the account you just successfully connected to Squarespace
For Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, click “Show Push Option”
For Facebook and Pinterest, click “Select a Push Target” (like an FB page)
Create a default post format that will be published on your target platforms whenever you publish new content
As for IG, you’ll need to share promotional images and videos on the platform yourself as there isn’t currently a push option.
How to Pull Content From Social Media
Don’t leave it up to a static icon to push potential followers to your accounts! You can integrate dynamic feeds onto your website that showcase your content. You can easily add social blocks in your site designer to pull content from:
Simply open a page or post, hit “Add Block,” and select the one for your target platform. They’ll update in real-time (or every hour) to display your latest posts to your site visitors.
Analytics and Troubleshooting: Monitoring and Resolving Social Media Integration on Squarespace
Squarespace has built-in analytics tools that measure the effectiveness of your social media integrations and track engagement metrics. This can be helpful if you’re trying to generate more followers and visibility through your site and vice-versa.
The Squarespace Analytics reporting tool tells you everything you need to know about your site’s performance, including engagement from social media, which can make marketing and brand development a lot easier on your end.
With metrics at your fingertips, Squarespace Analytics allows you to monitor site visitors’ behavior and learn how they interact with your site. With this information, you can make data-informed decisions to improve your design, boost your content, and see the results you’re hoping for.
Troubleshooting: “Connected Accounts Deactivated”
If you get a Squarespace error saying your connected accounts are deactivated, head back to your Social Links panel and make sure the account URLs match your current profile links.
If you change your username on a social media site, it will update your URL. This means any third-party sites (like Squarespace) currently using your old account name will no longer work.
You can also receive the “Connected Accounts Deactivated” error on Squarespace if you’ve changed credentials like your password or email. If you receive this message, here’s how to troubleshoot further:
Log out of the affected account on all browsers, e.g. log out of Instagram if Squarespace says it’s disconnected.
Go to your Connected Accounts panel and click the account with the error message.
Click “Disconnect” on the affected account.
Click “Connect Account” again and re-enter your login credentials.
Exploring Available Connected Social Media Accounts
There is a wide range of social media accounts you can connect with Squarespace. Aside from the top performers like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter, there are over a dozen possible integrations including:
Apple Podcasts
Discord
CodePen
Behance
Flickr
Foursquare
GitHub
Google Play
Houzz
IMDb
Medium
Meetup
Pinterest
Reddit
Spotify
Snapchat
SmugMug
SoundCloud
Stitcher
TripAdvisor
Tidal
The Dots
Tumblr
Twitch
VSCO
Vevo
Vimeo
Yelp
YouTube
Whenever you connect an account in your Social Links panel, an icon for these platforms will automatically appear on your site.
Managing Authorization and Resetting Connected Account Data
You will need to authorize an account once you add it to sync it to your Squarespace account. This is a super-easy process. Just head over to the Connected Accounts panel, select the connected account you need to authorize, and log in with your credentials. Click “Authorize,” and you’re good to go.
If you ever want to remove an account, just head back to the same location in Connected Accounts, select your desired account, and hit “Disconnect Account.”
Managing your Squarespace social media accounts is easy and doesn’t take more than a few minutes. Once you’ve got your accounts set up, they’ll be good to go as long as they’re authorized and you don’t change any details off-platform.
If you do ever update your login credentials, you’ll want to head back over to Squarespace, disconnect your old account, and reconnect and re-authorize your account with the new login credentials.
Recap: Squarespace and Social Media
You can have your cake and eat it too on Squarespace. It’s easy to integrate social icons for your audience to connect with your brand on other platforms by going to Social Links and entering the details for your respective platforms.
As for sharing, you can enable share icons on your posts, so your audience can let their own followers know how great they think your site is. Enabling social push on Squarespace allows you to automatically send updates from your site to platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn.
Just remember, Squarespace will only stay current with the version of an account you sign up with. That means you’ll want to reconnect accounts whenever you change login credentials (or even update your username on a social media app). This will keep all your accounts synced and ensure perfect harmony between your site and social media. Happy posting!
