How to Set Up Test Mode?
On your Squarespace site, go to Commerce. Once there, go to Payments.
Next, go to Test Mode, which lets you place test orders with fake credit card information so you can walk through the whole order process and see for yourself how it works.
Simply click on “Enable Test Mode” to launch Test Mode.
Now you’re free to explore your site. Your store is disabled while you’re in this mode.
When you are in Test Mode, no user on your site can complete a transaction.
Ideally, you will enter Test Mode prior to launching your Squarespace site, or during slow times when people are unlikely to make a purchase.
While in Test Mode, you can check different things. Begin by clicking on your Shop page. Check out the first item you see. Review the item and make sure the content is how you want it to be.
Next, add a few items to your Shopping Cart. Click Checkout. You will be redirected to a page that’s ready to accept credit card information.
How to Test Your Payment Process?
Once you’re on the credit card page, check the top of the page.
When you’re in Test Mode, it should note “Trial Account” at the top of the page.
Go ahead and walk through the steps of inputting your information, including:
Add your email address
Fill out your shipping information
Select shipping options
Complete your payment information
Check your order summary
Because you’re in test mode, feel free to put in fake information. You’re not actually ordering – you’re just testing the process!
Making Test Purchases
After you’ve filled in your fake details for credit card information and other fields, click Purchase.
Once you’ve made your test purchase while in Test Mode on your Squarespace site, the Order Confirmed page appears. Review this page. It should include the following:
Order number
Monetary purchase amount
A notice that a confirmation has been sent to a designated email address
And other pertinent information
Now go ahead and check the email that was sent. This test email shows you what your customer will see. Make sure that:
The text reads correctly
All the useful details the customer would expect to see are present
The information is clear, not confusing
By default, the order confirmation email includes the following:
“Order #XXXX Confirmed” statement, with an actual order number
The name of your commerce business
Order summary
List of items purchased
Shipping option selected
Breakdown of subtotal, shipping, sales tax, and total
Payment method
Customer information
Customize Your Features While in Test Mode
You can go back to your Commerce menu to set up and customize any field that you want. You can set up any of the following to your preferences:
Payments
Checkout
Customer Accounts
Shipping
Pickup
Taxes
Accounting
Looking at Shipping, you’ll see that you can add shipping options, and you can also set up pickup options. Go ahead and make any shipping adjustments you want.
Customer Notifications
You can set up Customer Notifications. There’s A LOT you can do here! If you’re a beginner, don’t get overwhelmed by all the available options. Keep things simple.
While in Test Mode, feel free to play with the Customer Notifications fields. Check out Global Email Styles, Business Settings, and other options to see what’s available to you in Squarespace.
Also, in terms of Customer Notifications, be aware that you can customize many different types of email messages the customer receives from your commerce store, including:
General orders
Point of sale
Customer engagement
Customer accounts
Gift cards
Subscription orders
Member areas
Turning Off Test Mode
While in Test Mode, try different options before making your final selections. Feel free to amend custom messages wherever you want to provide your customer with a more personalized message.
Personalization can be especially handy when you have different types of products to offer. You can explain to your customers how they’ll receive digital products, for example.
When you’re done with Test Mode, go back into Payments, go to Test Mode, and turn OFF the “Enable Test Mode” option. Your site will once again be LIVE.
