We are the Viles, the heart and soul of Sand n’ Straw Community Farm. We came up with the name Sand n’ Straw Community Farm as we wanted to keep our beach roots while venturing out into country life.
When we first decided to start a garden, we bought boysenberry, raspberry and blueberry plants. Not knowing any better, we put them together only to learn that they required different planting methods. While we failed on our first gardening attempt, the important thing is we started. Rich’s brother was subsequently diagnosed with Stage IV stomach cancer. We watched helplessly as he suffered, radically sparking a desire to research our diet. We had been that competitive sports family, eating out far too much, constantly on the go, not paying much attention to our diet or what it was doing to our family.
A change had to be made. Rich left his employment to attend farm school and we both enrolled in permaculture design courses. Our house became our gardening training ground. During this time, we visited farms throughout California and Oregon talking to farmers, learning ideas that worked or didn’t work as we continued to look for our niche in the world of hobby farms.

I was born outside of Pittsburgh, PA in 1977 (a reason why you’ll find those numbers in my artwork). As a kid, I was really shy but eventually found art that helped me find my voice. I would trace cartoons, skateboard graphics and album covers. I can recall drawing Guns N Roses “Appetite For Destruction” many times in sixth grade or sitting in church every Sunday doodling on whatever paper I could find. I took art classes throughout high school and decided to pursue a degree in fine arts after school. I went on to college at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, two hours north of Pittsburgh. I focused on printmaking at the time, which is where I learned about artists like Jose Guadalupe Posada and the German Expressionists like Kathe Kollwitz. I loved woodcut printing as it offered bold black line work and a graphic quality that I’d later use in my paintings.

In August of 2018, Charm Tuazon-Walker founded Bloom Theory as a floral design company. As Bloom Theory grew, so did the team. Yes it’s true! Some married couples can work together, and we do quite happily every day. We really balance each others skill sets with Tracy as a graduate of the U of A Residential Interiors program and Keith as an Architectural Technologist. With years of experience in both the residential and commercial world before joining forces as Flawless Interiors and 12 years working together, it has been a crazy and fun ride. Both Keith and Tracy are NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Assoc.) members, and certified as Associate Kitchen & Bath Designers by the NKBA. They happen to be obsessed with any educational opportunity they can find and also enjoy spending time with their kids, two dogs and cranky cat.

I graduated with my Master of Social Work in 2018, and I have made a significant career change from Social Work to follow my purpose and share my Spiritual Gifts. My background in clinical therapy has given me an extensive toolkit to work one-on-one and in groups with folks across the spectrum of experiences and identities.
